"I am a 100% disabled veteran with valid Florida Disabled Veteran license plates, which legally authorize me to use designated accessible parking spaces. While visiting a neighboring business, I parked in an accessible parking spot located in front of this State Farm office.

A representative from the office approached us and stated that the owner/manager had complained about our vehicle being parked there. We politely explained that we are authorized to use accessible parking and pointed out our Disabled Veteran plates. The response we received was that the owner/manager “didn’t care.”

Regardless of whether we were patronizing their business or another nearby business, accessible parking exists to accommodate individuals with disabilities. The interaction came across as dismissive and lacked respect for disabled individuals and veterans.

I hope management takes the opportunity to better understand disability accommodations and ensures that future interactions with disabled customers and visitors are handled with professionalism and courtesy."
